A Day of Indigo dying with Bleue

Photo 22-03-2017.jpeg

Indigo with Bleue will be take you through a step by step journey of learning how to use one of the worlds most revered dyes and dyeing techniques: The natural indigo fermentation VAT.

There will be lengths of cotton for you to dye and you can also bring your own garment which you want to experiment with. The session will start with a brief history of Indigo, its cultural relevance and the mystery that surrounds it. We will then move onto the dying process, a unique process that has been held in such high esteem over the past 8000 years, Bleue will give you a practical guide in creating, dying and maintaining an Indigo vat. You will then get the opportunity to dye your own fabric and garments through a traditional and natural fermentation VAT, this slow and rewarding process yields some of the most vibrant shades of blue known to humankind. By the end everyone partaking will understand the dyeing process and have a beautifully indigo dyed garment to take home with them.

Tuesday 28th November 10am - 3pm
(There will be a 1 hour lunch break to eat and chat natural dying whilst the vat ferments)

Spend an evening with Laxmi Hussain of THISLAKSHMI, where she will tech you techniques of botanical drawing using pen and ink.

Using inks with a brush and various warm-up techniques in pen and charcoal which Laxmi has adopted over time, the workshop will be focus on botanical drawing taking some inspiration from her work on the body to allow you to add human gestures too.
